SACRED TRADITION

ORTHODOXY (G. K. CHESTERTON)

Orthodoxy was published in 1908 as a response to a friend who wanted Chesterton to state his theological beliefs. Although this book was written when Chesterton was still an Anglican, it is nevertheless an important piece of apologetics that Roman Catholics use to defend the validity of the faith. The work is not so much about Christianity itself, but rather Chesterton’s own personal journey that led him to believe in it. He portrays the religion as the answer that arises naturally out of humanity’s needs, solving all of its puzzles and problems. Since then, this text has become a cornerstone of modern theological thinking and has been listed as a classic in its own right.

"It may be that God has the eternal appetite of infancy; for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we." - G. K. Chesterton, Orthodoxy.
